Last month, I came to Istanbul for a short business trip. This city had been one of the places I’d been curious about for years. I was going to attend my meetings and also explore a new culture for a few days.
I made all my preparations and brought my laptop with me; it’s indispensable for running my work, completing some presentations, and occasionally writing.
The first days of the trip were quite enjoyable. Walking through the streets of Istanbul, trying new tastes, experiencing the historical atmosphere… everything was going as planned. But on the third day, in the hotel room, a moment that seemed very simple at first turned everything upside down.
My laptop was charging and was placed a bit too close to the edge of the table. As I stood up, I accidentally caught the cable. The device didn’t exactly fall, but the charging socket was already broken. Thankfully, I soon discovered a laptop repair service in Istanbul that could handle it quickly.
At that moment, I realized: my Istanbul trip was about to turn into a technical disaster.
Turning to Google: Where Can I Find a Technical Service?
For the first few minutes, I didn’t know what to do.
I was in a foreign country, my device was malfunctioning, and all my work, my presentations… everything was in it.
The laptop still seemed to work, but it wasn’t charging. Once the battery ran out, it would shut down completely, and that could turn my business trip into a real crisis.
In the final minutes, I could still access the internet, I quickly turned to Google. I typed things like “laptop service Istanbul” into the search bar.
A Language Barrier and Hope That Started on WhatsApp
A few technical services popped up. When I saw a phone number on one of the websites, I decided to make a quick call.
I thought maybe someone who spoke English would answer, but the first voice on the phone said this sentence to me:
“No English, please…”
At that moment, I felt a little disheartened.
Maybe the solution I was looking for was slipping away again.
But right after that, the same voice added:
“WhatsApp, please…”
Even that sentence alone gave me some relief.
I quickly saved the number and started messaging via WhatsApp.
My first message was a simple sentence explaining that my device had fallen and the charging port was broken.
The reply I received was clear and sincere:
“No problem, we will solve everything,” they said, and sent me a location. I guessed that the person on the phone who couldn’t speak was using translation tools.
It was at that moment I realized:
We didn’t have to speak the same language to understand each other. If two people want to communicate, technology can easily overcome the language barrier.
Professionalism and Speed That Awaited Me at the Service
After receiving the address via WhatsApp, I reached the service point in a short time. I didn’t know what kind of place I was going to, but the tidy, clean, and simple environment I saw inside surprised me.
When I walked in, I was greeted warmly.
Although our languages were still different, the communication we had built through those first messages had already created a sense of trust between us. I handed over my laptop and showed the issue again.
They carefully checked it right in front of me. They confirmed that the socket was indeed broken but repairable.
(Of course, we were still resolving all of this through the phone, using translation.)
I explained that I was short on time, as I had another meeting in a few hours. The response I got was very clear:
“We can fix it within an hour. Please wait a bit. Would you like something to drink?”
The courtesy and speed were truly impressive.
In less than an hour, I was called back.
A new socket had been installed, and the device had been tested.
Moreover, throughout the entire process, I experienced no uncertainty or surprise when it came to the price.
Everything was clear, transparent, and extremely professional.
An Unexpectedly Reliable and Sincere Experience
This small malfunction initially seemed like it would disrupt my trip and my work, but in the end, it taught me something unexpected about Türkiye:
Here, technology doesn’t just fix devices — it also repairs understanding between people.
In a different country, in a different language, but with people seeking the same solution; thanks to technology, we found a common ground.
The attention, speed, sincerity, and professionalism I encountered truly impressed me.
If one day your path leads you to Istanbul and you face a technical issue, don’t hesitate for a moment to reach out to these people, just like I did.
Everything that happened to me was resolved here:
